Red 6mm granite chippings laid over an existing tarmac drive. |
The drive below had quite badly worn tarmac and was at the end of its life. The choices where either to dig it up and re-lay using tarmac or block paving. The drive was already at the correct level so to over lay with tarmac or similar was not an option. As our Hot Tar and Chippings are under 15mm thick we can confidently lay our surface over the old drive providing a new, hard wearing surface that we guarantee for 3 years. The centre photo shows us preparing the drive using a tack coat bitumen sprayed into the pot holes and low areas to ensure the traditional tarmac that we lay adheres to the old tarmac. This then allows us to lay straight over the top of the whole drive. Weed killing is done on a previous visit and any other necessary preparation. There are loose chippings on the drive after we have laid it, we can sweep off and remove these if the customer wishes or leave them on. It makes not difference to the surface it is really just down to personal preference. Click on a photo if you wish to enlarge it and then "back" on your browser to return here.

Green 6mm Dolorite chippings laid over an existing concrete drive. |
The drive below is constructed of concrete and starting to pit and wear.
The joints between the slabs we filled with hot rubberized bitumen to allow them to flex.
Hot Tar and Chippings was then laid using Welsh green Dolorite.

6mm Golden Brown chippings laid over Mot Type 1 Sub base |
The drive below is constructed using Mot type 1 sub base.
This is levelled and graded using our mini digger and then compacted with our heavy vibrating roller.
Reinforced hot tar and chippings where then laid over the top to seal the drive and give it a water tight long lasting surface.
